Spring choices, hmmm....I'm a fan of LS6 springs (that's what I've been using with my itty bitty cam, and will be using with my Vinci Trucker), but Thunder's lobes are pretty agressive, and may require more seat pressure than the LS6's can provide. As for duals, that's overkill for your setup IMO...why put the extra stress on your valvetrain (lifters, pushrods, etc.) than you need? If you plan to run a lot of lift and real agressive lobes some day, that's a different story.

I'd stick with the PAC 1218's...I'm going to guess that there was an installation error as skolman91 mentioned, especially considering the location of the broken spring. Everyone makes mistakes...

And for those of you who are running or will eventually be running the PAC 1218's, I wouldn't get my ***** in a bunch, it's one broken spring...there's plenty of guys running 1218's with no problems. The Comp 918 breakages seemed to be an epidemic...hopefully the 1218's won't be.

I've been running mine for over a year with 2 different cams (low lift and high lift) and they're still doing great.

And as far as install error, I think that would've broke something much sooner. A spring would fly off on the first start up if the spring was not installed right.

I wouldnt have a problem running PACs again, Except for the fact that my truck will be back on the road by the end of this week and i need the springs today or tomorrow. So i dont really have much time to wait on Processing/shipping. My tuner carries 918s and PRCs in stock, So i either run the spring that has been known to break numerous times, Or get the springs that are overkill for my set up..

Sounds like an installation error. I could easily see not seating one of the locks properly and coming loose in such a short time causing the failure. People are so quick to jump on it always being a "bad batch". Sucks to hear about your issue. I would contact the manufacturer directly.

I run 918's with no issues and will with my larger cam I'm installing here soon. Should have let me do the install . On a serious note sucks to hear hope you get it figured out.

I can see it bein installation error too, But since he does LS installs all day every day, And took 2 days on my truck i figured he took his time and did not rush..

I contacted SDPC where i got them from, They are goin to replace the 1 spring..

Everything is pretty much figured out, should be back on the road this week.

If the the lock came loose, then the spring would've come loose. Not break into 3 peices....

Not the best pics, But you get the idea..

Didnt do any damage to valve seal on the head, And barely hit the piston once. Looks good. So i think i got about as lucky as i can get in this situation..

Not necessarily, I've seen new engines installed and run in vehicles just to break after a short while of driving. I also know guys who go out on their first road test driving the car, and come back sitting in the passenger's seat of a tow truck.
