Default What is considered to big of a cam for 5.3L?

Asking in a sense of stall and lower power band dropping off badly. I have the isky triple 212, but after doing quite a bit of research on here I am not ready to do a DIY turbo kit yet..... Also don't have quite 10K for the build Thinking about sticking a fun N/A cam in it for now.

1st question: what is the largest duration you would go on the stock 4L60e stall?

2nd question thinking about getting a yank 2600-or-3000, the trany is starting to slip.

The truck is a dd, Kinda lol I love stalls at WOT, but for dd I hate being a 2-3K rpm getting to 30-45mph

If you need a DD aftermarket stall then circle d offers a budget convert that is right up your alley. As for cams on a stock or mild stall the too big question is a matter of opinion. For example I have met guys with a 220/220 cam that drove them nuts due to lack of low end. Other guys on the other hand with 228r cams who are happy as a clam on a stock stall. I would personally choose a 220/224 low lift with a budget 2800 circle d stall as a great daily.

I would get a tranny rebuild before putting in a bigger stall bro. If its already slipping then I wouldnt spend in a stall yet.

Of course lol I was going to buy it and have the transmission shop install it for me while they had it out.

What are some advantages/disadvantages of a split duration? That 228 is nasty. Know anybody will with a dd video of it on stock stall?

Tuning is a major key when running low stall with a big cam. I ran a 244/248 cam with a stock 60e converter for almost 2 years I had no drive ability issues at all

This is the setup I have with cal speed headers and y pipe along with 4.56 gears front and rear.. After tuning etc I still feel its lost bottom end over the factory stock cam. But now it pulls nicely from 3500 to 6,700 rpm!

It's really a matter of opinion and personal preference. However, I would suggest going no bigger than a 228/228. Smaller duration cams reduce the amount of low end torque loss in smaller cubic inch engines. My personal opinion...220/220 on a 112.

I really want the 228/228 on 112lsa sounds amazing in the 5.3L, but I know bigger is not better for small cubes. Man are there a lot of proven set ups with the 220/220 yall were not kidding. The 228 makes like 10 more hp than the 220 right?

I am liking the 3K stall y'all suggested, I can live with 2,000 rpms to get to 30-45mph.

Being that I have a light 2wd single cab I could afford to lose a little low end tq. Thinking about milling the heads 0.03 and throwing some 0.04 cosmetic gaskets on the truck bump compression to 10.3:1. Would a .8 compression jump help retain some low end?
