How did the Vortec 400 turn out???!!! This is the same motor that I'm going to build, so I'd like to know if it all worked. The only thing that I really have a question on is Fuel injection. It's a 1990, I'd like to keep it fuel injected but want to "upgrade" I've seen Accel has some nice stuff but I'm a little lost.
Would I need a new/bigger fuel pump?
Is tuning possible & is it difficult?
Any insight from experience would be hugely appreciated!
I know it would be really easy to slap a carb on and go but I'm really set on fuel inj.
Thanks for the help!!!

1990 old body style K-5 blazer. I'd like to have the heads ported. I was hoping to get these numbers on 87 octane like in this article. I can't wait!!!

The 1990 had a TBI unit so with any MPFI system, you will need to upgrade to a TPI style pump.
Unless you plan on running no accessories and a electric water pump you won't make 490hp. The drag of the belt and accessories will take away some power. You'll be around 450hp with the accessories.
Tuning won't be bad but you're starting from stratch so it might be a challange to start out with.
I run my MPFI off of a 90-92 Camaro '730 ecm with teh harness reworked. Just a thought.

I realize that those numbers are at the crank, still impressive. What does your 383 put down?
What MPFI would you recommend? You picture looks similar to the stealth ram from weiand. Would you do that again or would you use something else.
I'm open to suggestions from all angles. I just got done looking for some complete kits, looks like it could be $2500 for something decent. Are there any other options that are cheaper. Like an old TPI system? (I don't think that they made one for the vortec heads)
Thanks,
Russ

Its a Stealth Ram from Holley. If you want low end torque, a single plane/Stealthram(tunnel ram) design is not for you. If you not plan on reving past 5800...then I would look SuperRam/TPI/Dual Plane MPFI.
In a K-5 truck, I wouldn't do StealthRam....I would do SuperRam.
SDPC makes a base for the vortec heads on TPI if you want to use vortec heads.
I haven't dynoed it yet....I'm working on the tune at the moment.

interchangeable vortecs
I have a 350 vortec in a 97 suburban half ton that is throttle body fuel injection. I seized the motor but found a 350 vortec that is out of a 92 but is carburated. what if anything "is not" interchangeable?
