Jay, this is all a little cryptic. I understand cams pretty well, ramps, rates, duration, etc. But what are the differences between Comps LXL, LSL, XE, XER lobes, etc. We routinely
read guys claiming certain lobes or cams are "old technology" and other options are better. Which lobes are the latest and greatest?

Out of curiosity, how would you modify your very interesting cam suggestion to the OP for the same engine ('03 L59) in a heavier Suburban, minimal mods (cai and catback), low end and mid range being critical? Thanks.

XER in my option should be retired its way to hard on springs and when you can run a LSL lobe that makes as much or more power all while being easier on springs, well its a no brainer...

LSL is the most aggressive lobe I would run on a street car/weekend racer, Comp has spent lots of money developing these lobes and at the latest/greatest if you would...

The LXL is just a milder LSL lobe and basically a EPS clone.

The XFI fills the gap between the LSL and LXL lobes. The intake and exhaust specific patterns also make them unique and make great power. Use them more then any on the Hemi motors to great success.

XE is great for LS6 Springs and mild daily builds. Then the XE high lift has long spring life but requires a PAC 1218 or similar spring.

I mix and match lobes to get the valve events and powerband I need. There is no perfect recipe! lol

Send me a PM with extensive detail on the vehicle, goals, expectations, use and future mods.

Jay

what different considerations have to be taken in to account when designing a cam for one of the new DI engines? ( other than the fuel pump lobe being on the cam ofcourse )
