Default Timing chain or gear drive

Will be building a 408 soon and was wondering if anybody was doing gear drive.
I know back in the old days they were pretty loud but you can get some quiet ones now.

I don't think they make gear drives for ls1's?? I use rollmaster billet double roller chains, its a high quality timing set!

Thats what i've heard too. Every SBC gear drive i've seen has always stated *Not Compatable with Computer Controlled Engines*

Besides, i bet that thing would be noisy as heck.

I recieved this answer from a friend of mine on a differant site.
Quote
The gear drive has a harmonic whine while the knock sensors detect sharp, distinct noises that range above the constant. So the gear whine would not be seen as anything out of the ordinary since they are a constant not intermitant noise. Same with the supercharges, constant noise-no knock detect

Gear drive and knock sensors are compatible... just depends on the knock sensor used. I ran a Pete Jackson gear drive in my 85 Vette... and it had one knock sensor on the passanger side of the block. No problems. I liked the sound for about a day... but thats just me. Never seen a setup for the GENIII motors. Like Sled said... if you are looking for a functional strength increase I would go double roller... assuming you stick with a GM oil pump. FYI, I have heard there are fitment issues with the Melling pump and double rollers... maybe Sled has more info on this (?).
