Default Stretched Cam Chain

Hey guys. Been a while since I've been on the site, which is a good thing. It means my truck has been running good. A while back when I did my cam swap, I did it in my uncles garage down at his shop. When I got to my cam chain is was very loose. I wanted to replace it at the time, but my uncle needed the shop back the next day, so I didn't have the time to order one, and just put the truck back together with the loose cam chain. I haven't had a single problem for almost 10k miles now. However the other day I got in my uncles truck that also has a 6.0, and it was crazy how much better his truck did in the take off department. His truck is a 2000 2500 2wd and is 100% stock. So I then asked my cuz if I could drive his truck, which is an 04 2500hd with 6" lift, 35" tires, and everything else stock including engine and gears (so basically the same truck as I have minus some mods). His truck had more bottom end than my truck too. It has me wondering if something is wrong with my truck, because I have 4.88 gears. My truck should feel much better taking off compared to my cuz's truck with 4.10's and the same size tires that I have on. Plus I had BBP tune my truck, and they took out all of the torque managment supposedly. Before you go slamming my cam as the cause of the problem, this problem was here before my new cam. In fact I actually picked up bottom end with my new cam. Once I get up and going the truck scoots. It is way faster than both my uncles truck and my cuz's. I'm wondering if a stretched timing chain could cause my timing to be off enough to cause performance issues. Sorry so long, but what do you guys think? Could my truck be pulling timing at the take off, causing my shitty bottom end?

that cam isn't the best and you have a mail order tune.

I would look for a smaller cam and get a dyno tune.

Any reason why you picked that cam?

Cam is not the problem. The lack of low end was there before the tune, before the lift, before the gears, before the tires, before the cam, or anything else. The truck was a slug off the line to begin with. Everything I have done to the truck has made an improvement so far. I just went and raced my cuz's truck and I pulled him from a launch big time. So I guess my low end isn't as bad as I thought. I guess what I am noticing different between the trucks, is the instant throttle response. With both of the other trucks that I drove, there was absolutely no hesitation. In gravel you have to be careful how quickly you push the gas or you spin the tires a little. With my truck there is no such problem. When you punch it from a stop, it acts like it has to think about it for a second and then decides to just take off. I am not currently throwing any codes. It acts like a timing issue. I've timed a lot of sbc's and this is how they acted with too little initial timing. Once you bumped em up, they had no hesitation. That's why I questioned my very stretched cam chain.

While replacing the chain should be a priority that isn't likely to be your problem. Mail order tunes are by nature very safe so timing may not be exactly agressive. The cam you have isn't so agressive for a 6.0, but it's not ideal for your setup. It may have added lowend HOWEVER it added much more mid range and top end where by comparison you will feel as though the bottomend or launch is lacking. A small stall 26-3000 will give you a world more launching power without sacrificing anything. The best thing you can do at this point is a fix the known issue of timing chain and then add a stall and live tune.

I agree. A 2800 stall is on my list of to do's. I'm gonna change the cam out next week. So I guess I need to go ahead and order one. Going to order the LS2 cam chain. Any problems running this on my truck? Oh and a dyno tune would be great, but I live in BFE. I really don't know where I would even go to get a tune from someone who knows what they are doing.

that cam isnt the best but you already know that, get a stall and you will be blown away by the bottom end you gain
are you running a BB mail order tune or a auto cal tune?

BB mail order tune. I hope to get a stall very soon. I have known I would need to do that for some time. Just trying to find the coin, since I will be having a shop do the work. I just don't have the tools to drop my tranny by myself. I should probably look into the auto cal tune too, since I don't have a local tuner.
