Default Solid Lifters?

I was wondering, at what point should you consider using solid lifters rather than hydraulic?

At the point that you are ready to quit using your knock sensors, wouldn't it?

Most people make the switch when rpm,and spring pressure exceed a hydaulic lifters capabilities. It will boil down to someones opinion as to when the saftey margine comes into play.So many diffrent combinations to consider its just too difficult to call unless you paint a bigger picture.

Are we talking about on your truck?? Solid lifters are great for 1 thing imo and that is all out racing.. For a daily driver they are more hassle then they are worth.. Again this is my op.. You need to keep after them to make sure they stay in adjustment.. Solids are great if your constantly seeing 6500+ rpms, because valve float is not no where near as abundant as it is with a hydro roller.. Solids also are a little easier on the valve train as it takes a lil less seat pressure to avoid valve float, due to the tappets being lighter then a roller style one...

No, not for my truck. I've been seeing alot more guys trying to get 800-1000 hp, and wondering if solid lifters should be part of those setups.

Again if it is for a drag set up, have at a solid cam.. They will def make more up top ponies.. If it is on boost, your shifting it at 6500ish imo a hydro roller should be fine..

Back from the dead. I came across this article comparing a hydraulic to a solid lifter setup, and thought it was interesting enough to share. Seems to not be as large of gains with roller cams, as it is with flat tappet cams.

I've always considered solid lifters to be more of a flat tappet thing myself, even though they are available for roller applications.
