Default Slow Shiftin in 04 gmc sierra 5.3

hey, i have a 04 sierra 5.3, its an automatic and when you try to accelerate quickly, it takes a little longer then i like for it to get to 2nd, and when it does it is a pretty rough. it can be the same for 3rd but its off and on. any suggestions on how to diagnose/fix and improve this? thanks

Are you talking wide open shifts or part throttle? How many miles are on the trans? And when was the last time you serviced it?

Wide open, there are 221,777 km on it. i have replaced the trans fluid right when i got it, but that was the most done to it. dont know the last time the previous owner had it serviced. i have no muffler and a cold air, dunno if that would have much of an effect in terms of acceleration.

Time to drop the tranny and have it opened up, with that many miles on it. Just changing the fluid and filter won't replace needed attention.

There was a thread over on tech that addressed the MAF being dirty causing all sorts of grief with the transmission...

May be worth checking/cleaning before you go too deep, but I am no expert!!
