I have yet to see a true "back to back" test to show that long tubes are substantially better than short tubes. I agree that they will be better, but I just don't think it will be substantially better.

If anyone can point me to a comparison, I will stand corrected.

If you had a really "by the book" emissions guy, he probably wouldn't pass you with a set of LT's. But you could always take them off once a year to get it tested and then reinstall everything back they way you had it.

Dont shorties unless your worried about emission. I have them and regret it for how much I paid for them I couldve bought a set of pacesetters with the Y pipe.

Ahhh....I'm just playing with you, underneath my grumpy aged exterior is really just a mean old man

I have done a shorty to LT comparison....I gained ~10hp from the JBA shorty's to ASM Lt's. The cost of the shorts was about the same as the lt's new so there you go.

That's also with JBAs which have bigger primaries than most shorties. I bet you would see even better gains over a set of cheaper shorties with smaller primaries.

Read all of that post in the above link. One of our brothers went thru a lot of trouble to answer the most common questions

thanks for the compliment

on the original topic, get long tubes. on what brand, id say pacesetters for a budget, dyantechs if you want/need cats for emissions, stainless works for high quality headers. there are others but these are the most popular.

there have been a few that have dyno'd before and after shorties and showed 0hp/0tq gains and that to me says its not worth the cost when some report up to 15+hp gains with longtubes

as a note though, if you get longtube headers and an offroad y-pipe( not cats) youe will first of all need a retune. and it will be MANDATORY to get some sort of muffler or resonator in there also
