Safe mill on stock heads?

Default Safe mill on stock heads?

going to have some heads milled and would like to know if I can go
.040 .045 .050 thousandths

cam is a 228 230 571 573 112 comp cam

There have been some who have had .050 taken off, sure.

.040 is safe for the deck thickness but P2V with your cam would need checking. I had .040 milled off my 5.3 heads when I had them on the 5.3 with a smaller 214/216 .55x cam with no problems.

i would check with a reputable machine shop on this.. tell them your head casting, planned gasket thickness, and cam, and they SHOULD know... if they are familiar with LS series engines.

You may also run into probs with the intake fitting..

measure it out. Thats the only way you will know. I would not want to take more than .030 off a stock head. Its pretty thin from the factory. Its like a block, why take it all off because when you have a problem you have no more room to fix it.

well richard at wcch will receive the heads tomorrow I sent him, there supposed to call me and talk about the setup. thanks for the advice.

We typically never go over .030
