Default Ring install question

If I have already broke in my motor and need to pull the piston out is it important to put the piston back in with the rings in the excact location that they were initially put in? I have read that rings will rotate so it is not important but others say that it is.

The exact location is not important, I would avoid lining up all the gaps if anything.
