Default Ring Gap.. again!

Quick overview of my Truck:

1988 GMC Sierra Reg Cab
6.0 lq4
4l80e
Transgo HD2
3000-3600 stall thereabouts eventually
Future Turbo Build... 76mm 8-14 #'s
Isky Tripple 12 cam
ARP Head Studs
ARP Connecting rod bolts
Comp 7.4 Hardened PR
Patriot Dual Valve Springs
Comps Cams Trunion Rocker Upgrade
Melling 10296 Oil Pump
TCI Flexplate
Dual Roller Timing Chain
LS9 Head Gaskets
3.43 gears
Aeromotive 340!
Meth Kit
60# Injectors
Racetronix Fuel Pump Harness
Nelson Performance re-worked harness
HP potential 600+ hp skies the limit
Not a DD, weekend warrior... maybe a pass or 2 a year at the track... who knows!

So I am running the stock pistons and stock rings I know the trusted measurement is 0.0055 x Bore Dia. for top and slightly looser for the 2nd ring, but that will put me at 0.033 for a top ring gap and roughly 0.035 for the second. Now after reading a lot on various sites 0.028 seems fair followed by 0.030 for the second. What do you guys think sound solid? Little too much? I don't want to burn up too much oil, but I seriously don't want the rings to butt either.

Mine are 0.022 top and 0.024 2nd on my 402. If your tune is spot on you can run a tighter gap.

In my 408 with wiseco pistons/rings, I'm running .018 and .022.

Hmmmmm... So I guess it's more of a question how small should I not go? (Especially with the added heat of having a turbo) Aftermarket rings call for different gaps, so with stockers in mind what should be my minimum? Just trying to get an overall consensus, thanks stock is .015?

I think mine is .024, .026. Don't remember what I set it at exactly, but the second ring is stock gap. Only had to grind on the first one.

.028, .028

If I'm not mistaken, the stock rings will grow more than a chromoly set would.

That's what I'm worried about! Granted a good tune, and a watchful eye on heat levels I'm sure will help. Thinking of going .024, .026 and be done with it, if .oo4 kills my engine then I was doomed to begin with lol
