Wondering if my stock pushrods will work on a 5.3 with ls6 heads. Will be using stock head gaskets and the heads have never been milled. Stock cam. I don't want any excessive valvetrain noise... i want the right parts from the get go. This is my only driver so i don't have time to be down to check length then order them. In theory, you should be able to use your stock pushrods since the later 5.3s came stock with 243 heads...

 

Apparently there is an early and later style ls6 heads... i have no idea which ones i have. I guess they have same casting number etc. At least that's what scoggin dickey techs told me. Now i feel like i made a mistake getting these heads. Cause i don't want to shell out another $400 for pushrods! Purchasing these was to replace the bad 706 castings. I hope someone can help me.

 

push rods are $100-$130...243/799 are the same casting...The only differences in some of those heads are the valve material. All geometry is the same

 

Good to know they are somewhat cheap. I just did a quick search on summit for the pushrods and was getting 25.99 ea.
These are the 243's. But someone was saying the valves are longer to make up for the small base circle cam. So you think my stockers will be right?

 

You'll be fine. I think you should put some better pushiest in it anyways. You can get some good ones from Texas speed for ~$100

 

imo it your doing heads it just makes sense to spend a little extra and drop some good pushrods in there while your at it. then again, so would a cam and springs under that theory too lol

 

I figured that would be everyones opinion... spring for the cam,pushrods,springs,etc. But doing these ls6 heads is to replace the bad 706 castings. So this is more of a have to do project, instead of just for fun searching for more power. But i appreciate all the help. I did pop for arp head bolts and all new belts and hoses
