So luckily I didnt do this to the car. I bought the car at a pretty good price knowing it had a knock. We all assumed bottom end, but as luck would have it; it was all in the top end. That was an MS3 cam with not even 500mi on it, and that was an LS7 lifter. There's some damage to the bearings because metal passed through them, but the rods and crank all check out well. Luckily the block survived the ordeal; after a cleaning and new cam bearings it will be like it never happened.
The lesson here is: dont be an amateur, pay attention to details and if you know your engine has a single point failure (like LS's) for the love of god make sure that single point is installed properly
After my 1st build failed when it lost oil pressure, I don't ever know where I'm driving with the second build, because I only look at the oil pressure gauge. Except it didn't warn about the valve spring that just broke. Don't use single coil valve springs!
