Default PSA: Pay Attention to Your Oil Pump

Specifically the pick up o-ring and how it seats in the housing! Don't let $.30 worth of rubber cost you $5k!

while we are it, check your barbells and the 3/8 block plug behind the oil pump

Ouch.

I have a SACCity Corvette barbell on my desk to put in the next time the tranny comes out, which judging by the last 2 years, won't be for a while.

So luckily I didnt do this to the car. I bought the car at a pretty good price knowing it had a knock. We all assumed bottom end, but as luck would have it; it was all in the top end. That was an MS3 cam with not even 500mi on it, and that was an LS7 lifter. There's some damage to the bearings because metal passed through them, but the rods and crank all check out well. Luckily the block survived the ordeal; after a cleaning and new cam bearings it will be like it never happened.

The lesson here is: dont be an amateur, pay attention to details and if you know your engine has a single point failure (like LS's) for the love of god make sure that single point is installed properly

After my 1st build failed when it lost oil pressure, I don't ever know where I'm driving with the second build, because I only look at the oil pressure gauge. Except it didn't warn about the valve spring that just broke. Don't use single coil valve springs!

Do you mean on cam install, or do you mean when you can't pump oil to cam? 😂

I just put one of those barbells in a few weeks ago. Its the only barbell I've picked up all year.

I also just got a new pickup tube o ring last week because the one that came with my new pickup tube was torn from the manufacturer.
