problem with head swap HELP!

What head bolts did you use?? Were they the proper length ones?? There are 2 diff length bolts you can get..

it's possible there was some residual fluid in the "blind" bolt hole which may have caused the block to crack when torqued down.

My thoughts exactly. BUT, IIRC the difference in length is about 2 inches, so I would assume you would know before the final torque if you had put the wrong bolt in the hole.

Its a 98 block so its gots the longer bolts, and it happend in a deep hole. Bolts are new stock replacements i ordered from Sqoggin dickys

98 would call for the bolts that are 2 diff length's. 04 up would be all the same length's

5.3's are kind of cheap on Craigslist, or better yet a 6.0L

Correct it was middle row second from back and i had a long bolt in it.

Well I went ahead and put it together and just fired it up, so far everything looks good, no water in the oil, no knocks, no water leaks, so i guess time will tell.
