Thats what im trying to figer out, I dont know what i broke into. I didnt think there were water passages down there i think it broke straight into the crank case. and if i did brake into a water passage wont it just try and push water up throw the head bolt? dont think that should hurt cause the old gen 1 motors have the head bolts in water

I don't think any of the passages go to the crankcase. I thought the were all around the water jackets. You could try and get one of those real skinny magnets (assuming your block is iron) and see if you can grab it. If you just put the head on I would remove the head and take it out. I would think it would come out the openings next to the cylinder.

I'd make an attempt to get it out, just so that it doesn't possibly block a water passage. If it did make it down to the crankcase, you have nothing to worry about. Like Joe mentioned, it isn't going to go anywhere. Definitely seal the bolt though, and keep your fingers crossed that it isn't a big crack and is only just a chunk that broke off.

Yeah thats kind of what i was thinking, but its a an ls1 so its aluminum, so i dont think theres any way of getting out, I went ahead a torqued the head down to spec and the bolt torqued down just like the rest so thats a good sign there aint a big crack down there.

If you don't have air tools or a compressor what's the best way to clean out the holes? I'm fixing to be doin a head swap myself and I guess maybe a magnet or somthing? . I don't want to run into any issues
