ive got a 05 LQ4 with floating rods that needs a rebuild the motor in my truck now is a 03 LQ4 that has pressed fit rods my question is can i use the full floating rods with my pressed fit style pistons ?

 

Nope. Your older press fit pistons do not have grooves machined in them for the pin retainers.

 

damn i didnt even think of that hmm wonder if i can just use the pistons and rods out of the newer motor

 

If the block is clean they will swap over.

 

yes the motor that is in my truck was a brand new crate motor from gm its only got 6k and i lost the camshaft

should i get the rotating assembly balanced id like to either way and im gonna do a set of ARP rod bolts also

 

Don't think it's absolutely necessary to balance, but I'd have it balanced if it were my build.

 

Would there be anything to worry about using higher mileage rods and pistons?

 

X2, its already apart any way so why not...

 

Not if there clean and pass inspection.

No major scuffing on pistons and still round. Pin Holes are round and within spec. same with rods, Holes on size and not bent or stretched.

And most importantly Nothing has been over heated!!!

 

Is that the same cam you got when you got your heads done from AI?
