try diamond piston, JE piston, and Mahle. They all have the best selection of off the shelf LSx pistons. You may have to have some custom made for the 5.3. I don't recall seeing any off the shelf for it.

yeah you can bore the 5.3 over to a 346 (ls1 bore). you will just have to bore it out and the rods and crank are the same as the ls1. good luck

3.898 is stock ls1. You can safely bore a 4.8/5.3 block to LS1 bore. Anything in the 3.898-3.905 range should be fine.
Also, if you are using a stock rod you need pistons for a .945" wrist pin and 6.098" rods. The 6.125" .927" wrist pin are an aftermarket gen 1 sbc rod that is often used in LSx engines. Due to quality and weight my preferences in order would be Mahle, JE, then Diamond. Lighter is better of course and Diamond's are all heavy. I am putting diamond in my 6.0 but they were the only thing off the shelf that I could find in my compression range I was after. They are nice quality though.

You could do a little clean up on them if you'd like. It is just all what you have as far as a budjet goes. With FI you can get away without spending as much money on the heads due to the gains not being as dramatic as with a NA application.
