Default piston slap or lifter noise??? "tick tick tick"

i have a stock LQ4 with 34000 miles and its a 2002 2500hd,and it has the so called LS piston slap, or lifter noise.
i have done a search and i havent come up with much info,so is this still a common problem and there is no real explanation, other than its normal for the LS motors and be done with it and move on?
or can i run some 15-40 or maybe even run some Lucas in with my oil?
the truck runs fine and the tick doesnt bother me, but i am a car guy and i just wanna KNOW!
my engune builder is very aware of this issue and he even said his LS motors dont tick.
he just recommended using some stp or lucas.
some good input would be appreciated.
thanks

hear ya go...just posted a couple hours before you...its normal...from what i understand is the pistons skirts are really short and once you get some tolerance in the cylinder, they will 'slap' around until they warm up and expand...

I have seen some issues recently with lifters causing noise. Also damaging camshaft. The stock motor should not tick. Some slight rattle when cold is normal but should always go away if it is piston slap.

Post up a vid. If you have a lazy lifter they always tick at half the rate of the engine revolutions so it's very "slow" sounding. Rapid ticks (equal RPM) should be related to the rotating assy. Like mentioned above though, should go away after 5 minutes of driving.
