piston and rod question
well I have been gathering parts for a lq4 to lq9 budget build, and have some lq9 pistons and rods that I was going to use. BUT...the more and more I think about it the more I want to wait and save some more money to forge it. I need info on piston brands and rod brands. I found some forged h- beam rods for 269 new, claiming to be the same as eagle, compstar ect, and have been looking at mahle and probe for pistons. the rods are not branded. what are you guys running. its going to be a 11:1 motor with 100-150 shot. could I reuse the stock rods and buy forged pistons, or for a few hunderd just do h beam while I am in there. has anyone used pro comp head studs?thanks

Currently I'm runing Wiesco and diamond slugs, compstar and callies rods.
Personally, I'd stick with a known name-brand for both.
Rods -- compstar, callies, oliver, eagle, etc (no particular order)
Pistons -- weisco, diamond, mahle, JE, etc.
When you are ready to start building, I'd talk to an engine builder (Rex / Richard, Texas Speed, etc.) and ask them about known combinations that they prefer.

I am in the process of building a forged 370 and will be using compstar rods along, with JE or Ross pistons.. Def save your money, don't cheap out on things like that, it will cost you more in the long run.. You get what you pay for...

im going to run stock ls1 pistons and rods in the motor im building. they will be frozen with liquid nitrogen and heated before assembly (its supposed to make them as strong as being forged) but my truck shouldnt see more than about 550-600hp on the bottle
it costs $240 to have 8 rods and 8 pistons done ($10/piston, $20/rod)
