Took the drinkers side head off yesterday. Empty hole where the #2 piston used to be. Head is in surprisingly good shape. Little bit of projectile damage on the valves and chamber (which I will not be repurposing btw) but nothing too crazy. I ordered an eBay valve spring tool on fleabay, so I’ll break down the heads and inspect the valves, when that arrives.
There’s a nice chunk taken out of the cylinder and the #2 rod is free on the crank. I’ll pull bank one apart this week and take a look.

Derek from VGG is awesome. I prefer beer over 151 tho, as I own and operate a brewery just outside of Boston.

I've been around but a few short years, but I gotta say this is the first iron LS block I've seen take a chunk out of the cylinder without a power adder. Think it started to hydrolock on coolant and the pressure had to go somewhere?

good job man

Lifter valley cover and bank 1 head off…

I’ll get the springs and rockers moved over to the Ls1, and install the ss2 cam this weekend. I’ll check the pushrod length and install them, if I have the proper length, as well.

Sorry for the slow progress. I’ve been busy at work and fixing up my Duramax, but I’m hoping to have the Ls1 installed by the end of next week. I managed to remove all the old pac 1218s today and install all the springs on bank 1 of the 862s. Hopefully I’ll get the rest done tomorrow morning, flip the engine upside down and stab the cam in.

here’s a pic or two of the spring install. I know it’s nothing exciting.

Hurricane was supposed to hit us today in Massachusetts, but ended up being a bunch of hype for nothing, so I did more wrenching on the Ls1. I finished installing the pac1218s, flipped the engine, and stabbed in the new cam. I left the oil pump and chain hanging, which saved me a bunch of time. I torched the damper to easily install it on the crank, and promptly reinstalled the old (not new) balancer bolt. I then reused the tsp pushrods (after doing the kitchen counter roll check), and installed the rockers and valve covers. Engine is now good to go…. Maybe. We we see.
