what doyou guys recommend for an oil pump. i have an 03 rcsb 5.3 with a trick flow cam and 1.8 roller rockers should a run a high pressure stock volume or a stock pressure high volume, or just a stock 5.3 pump? the high pressure and high volume ones i have found are melling from summit and they are like $120 i can get a stock one from work for aobut $65. i dont wanna cheap out unless the stock is all i should run. thanks in advance

Stock is usually sufficient enough. Ported stock is a good improvement. I personally went with a Melling high volume/high pressure pump (10296) and also lightly ported it. My oil pressure is 15-20 psi higher across the board now.

ok thanks guys ive got this oil pressure problem that just popped up this last week or so, it only run maybe 20psi max even at high rpms and when im just drivin down the highway at 60 with cruise set its at about 1700 rpms and the oil pressure is less than 20 and the lifters will just start to collapse and rattle then i put it in neutral and rev it up and they will pump up and be fine for a few miles. they are brand new gm perf. lifters i put in when i did the cam swap and everything i think the pressure relief valve is probably stuck partially open.

yea im hoping a new pump will fix this i really dont want to pull the heads back off its just weird because it always ran around 50-60 psi and one day just fell off to about 15-20 thats what made me think it was the pressure release valve on the pump

well i slapped an oil pump in it this morning and it fixed the problem. it instantly went to about 50 psi at idle and i never could get about 20 out of it before. i tore the old pump apart and found some scoring on the relief valve piston and bore so it could of been hanging up in there. and also on the outside ring of the pump had grooves wore all the way around it. looks like something had went through it at one time. but im just glad it fixed the collapsing lifter issue going down the highway.
