Default not a race truck

2003 stock 6.0 L siverado 2500 hd, 4L80e, 4.10 gears. Truck is used for regular use, towing, not racing or high performance.
Has anyone installed LS6 heads to pick up .5 compression, and used LS6 cam to get better all around driveability, and power including towing?
Basically should be an LQ9 right? Except from LQ9's are used in performance trucks right?

Thanks

Carlos

no lq9's run the same cam as 02-04 ls1's and 318 heads not 243s.

guys, I understand about the cams, and I would have thought the same but I was looking at an LS1 vs LS6 power curve and the two seem close on the bottom end with the LS6 naturally gaining midrange up.
The LS6 cam does have a lot more lift but the duration does not seem that excessive so its just a thought here when taking into consideration the extra cubes of the LQ4 plus the 1/2 point compression.
The 4.10 gears I thought might help as well with the bigger cam, thats why I asked if anyone has tried that combo.

The dyno is auto vs manual.... wtf?

And the drivetrain loss contributes to that number being different, as well as the LS6 intake manifold being much better.

Hi Scott, thanks for your input. That dyno is a GM graph and by the numbers output I think its engine dyno numbers. I have not put my vehicles on wheel dyno but from what I understand stock Z06's come in around 335 rwhp.

I know the LS6 intake makes more power top end, how does it rate on torque at lower rpm's? My thought was laving the the truck intake on, specially if it made better lower torque #'s.
Here is the cam specs, intake duration does not appear excessive, just more lift.

6.0 LQ9
207/196 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.479" / 0.467" int/exh lift
116 LSA

2002+ LS6 cam
204/218 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.551" / 0.547" int/exh lift
117 LSA

If the cam is really unsuitable I could leave the stock cam and pick up a power from the compression which should be 40-45 similar to an LQ9 right?

thanks

Carlos

Aren't the LS6 heads and 317's almost the same (as far as the ports go)? You could just mill your heads to bump up the compression and get some shorter pushrods. Why not go for a cam like the Vinci Trucker or the ever proven Comp 212/218. The Comp cam will be very mild in a 6.0 and with the proper tuning sound almost stock. You'd probably want a small converter with the Trucker, but be OK on the factory converter with the Comp.

I believe your right on the heads being very similar. I'll check out those cams.
