Default no keyway on eagle crank? *pic*

I went to install my crank gear today, it slid all the way on and spins freely. There is nothing on the crank to engage the keyway on the gear. Shouldn't this area be raised instead of recessed?

You need a key to fit into the recessed area.

i had to have my crank and pulley cut for a key way. small blocks come with key ways so it shouldbt be hard to find one.

what do you think about this idea. I could drill and tap two small holes on the crank gear and snout and use set screws to hold it together? I wouldn't think it would mess with the balance really since any metal removed from the drilling would be replaced by the screws.

i reused my key from my 6.0 crank. any parts store will have a key for a couple of dollars. I wouldn't drill it any.

The keyway that he is referencing is the one that is machined on all crankshafts for properly locating the lower timing gear. I think that the keyway you had machined is specifically to keep your pulley from turning and backing out the bolt. I should've had this done when i had my engine built...would've saved me alot of trouble and money!
