I shimmed the spring in the pump and now have 35 psi at idle and it goes up according to rpm. wierd since this was a new gm pump. I am now also running rotella, which i had planned on running after breakin anyhow. all is good for now.

Did you do the shim and oil at the same time?

Did you compare the new pump to and older one, or the spring in the pump to see if there was a difference?

 

What is this Barbell you speek of? Never heard of it.

Smallest part in the world that will turn your day upside down. Especially if the motor is already installed with tranny in there.

GM Oil Restrictor

 

It goes into the oil galley at the back of the block. If it's not in there the oil will go through the galley past the filter and right back into the pan.

 

I shimmed the pump and gained 15 psi and the 15 40 rotella gave me another 10
