I have 2 pick up tube gaskets, the red one and the blue one. The blue one is bigger and seems looser on the pick up tube, so I was thinking I should use the red one. What has everyone else been using? This going to go onto a Melling high pressure high volume oil pump. This might sound stupid but are there any gaskets between the block and the oil pump or no?
**Also need to know the part number for oil pan bolts and the pick up tube to oil pump bolt.
And for when I buy the heads, all of the oil passages will be closed so what type of oil should I be using for the break in? I have heard really heavy weight stuff or Rotella but what exactly?
Thanks

Regular 10W30 for break-in is fine. If you are running larger then stock bearing tolerances then bump it up to 20W40-ish but its not necessary. You can also throw in some GM EOS break in oil to help seat the rings. Its an additive that comes in a little bottle that you add to the regular 6 quarts. There arent any gaskets betweent he block and pump. Main thing is get a new o-ring, I would actually use the larger diameter one. You need to get the Melling pump and test fit to see which one works best. I have always used the blue o-rings on my truck and others and havent had any problems. If I remember right the red one is kind of square shaped and the blue is just a regular round one. Blue would be the one I would throw in but its really a decision you cant make till you get the pump. Moreso then what type of oil you use for break-in is, how you break the motor in. I highly recommend talking to Richard@WCCH about your motor build they are very knowledgeable. They caught alot of problems with my motor that I would have never thought to check. And he can order any ARP stuff or gaskets that you may need along with of course heads.

Thanks a lot for the information Cody. Yeah I have been in close contact with Richard about build specs and various questions I have had. The red one is round as well but once I get the pump this week I will test fit them.
