Is a Craftsman socket OK? That's what I used, and the guide left a mark inside the seal. A bronze-tinted ring underneath the umbrella.

So does the new seal sit at the same height as the OG's?I know the seal should not be completely seated to the head but,I'm not too sure what installed height is.You over analyzing this making it out more then it is????

I was not familiar with stock seals, I found this pic on lawdogg_racing's thread "Help, Valve Stem Seal".

https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...8&d=1302921150

If there is no such thing as a smaller diameter seal, I think the one on the right in the pic might save the day. If there is room for the valve to move .588"

No. There is a larger part of the guide that the seal is supposed to grasp onto, but the seal is tighter on the valve than on the guide. It slips right off.

Here is a picture of the guides, they are seal-side down. The inside of the top of the seal hits the part that looks threaded. It is raining again, I'll look tomorrow if the seal is not going down far enough, or if it is just loose on the bumped-out part of the guide.

The seals are unique to AFR. Their website shows that the 6612 seal fits SBC, BBC, LSx and maybe something else, that made me think that they were standard valve seals. I didn't realize that they only fit SBC, BBC, and LSx AFR heads.

I just realized that I never posted that a new spring and seal made it run just fine, no consequences whatsoever.
