Im about 1200 in machine work
-Sonic test
-Bore and hone with plates
-Deck with Block true
-Line hone w/ studs
-Jet wash block, and misc parts
-Polish crankshaft
-Valve job on sunnen VGS20 finished up with stones.
-Surface heads

Other stuff not included is balancing, and piston work.
-Cut small dish in pistons(to maintain stock CR) 125.00
-Cut top .007'' of the top of pistons 75.00
-Piston mod 100.00
-balance ? not done yet should be 150.00 because we don't have to add.

Keep in mind this is top notch machine work, on the latest equipment. The statement "You usually get what you pay for" holds true especially on Machine work, and engine assembly. If your not careful you might pay for a lot more than what you get, but I doubt you will get more.

do you have pics of the bearings that are said worn? most ls1s have some copper showing in the first bearing but run fine.

Oh boy time for new ones. Cracks in the bearing and uneven copper showing through are indicative of a warped bearing.

Ya thats what I figured, not worth taking any chances considering the motor is already out and the heads are off so I can put my 243s on

It's cheap insurance to ensure longevity of the cam. How much have you spent on a camshaft? Probably upwards of $350 for a new one I'd guess, so just have the machine shop replace the cam bearings while they're in there. It takes them less than 20-30 minutes to do with the specialty tools they have at their disposal.

I paid $380 for my cam

Actually the only reason I am having the motor gone over is cause it needs the cam bearings replaced. I had no intentions of tearing it down this far, I just figured while the bottom end is apart for the cam bearings (they cant do them w/o taking the bottom end apart) I might as well do rings, all bearings and anything else it needs done

I paid 1600 for machine work and to have the short block put together. That include hot tank, install main studs, align hone, bore, full balance, all new clevite bearings, gap rings and set up quinch.
