LS6 cam in a stock 5.3 is it worth it?
#1
I have a 2001 5.3 that I'm putting into a 1953 chevy Belair with a 200R4 transmission and 3.90 gears. I have a stock set of 852 heads and I plan to install a dual plane intake with a 650 to 750 carb. This is mostly for crusing but I wanted a liitle more than the stock truck cam. Will the LS6 cam work and would the pistons need to be flycut. I plan on putting LS6 springs and pushrods.

I think it would be worth it if you have the cam or can get it at a good price. Grey Matter put one in his truck I believe and saw a good improvement in his 1/4 time maybe he will chime in. I dont know if it would perform differently with a carb setup though.
No you will not have to fly cut pistons the LSA on the LS6 cams is somewhere around 117 and the lift is only around .550 I believe.
