LQ9 C3500 swap
#14
I have a Comp Cams 54-452-11 cam (212/216 on 115 LSA) in my LQ4. Was NA for 35k miles before I added a turbo. NA, the cam added power everywhere compared to the stock cam and even felt better down at 1700 rpm. Peak torque is around 4800 rpm which is nice although it's out of steam around 6k rpm. I didn't want the torque peak any higher because I tow with it. I chose that cam because the intake valve closing was very close to stock, so you don't lose dynamic compression like you can with other cams. It seemed to be designed as a cam and springs only upgrade. If you are going to change pistons, there are better choices. I do wish that cam had more lift if anything. If you want lope, this cam has none. You will need a cam with overlap, which will hurt low end torque.

I have a Trick turbo stage 3 kit with the standard VSRacing 78/75 cast wheel turbo. Only upgrade to the kit is too the 46mm wastegate. The turbo kit made my truck a very fun daily driver. It's not a cheap upgrade, but way cheaper than a new truck and tows like a dream with the turbo. Tons of turbo info on the site.
