Default low oil pressure! Need help.

Ok guys i just got my truck finally together to where i could start driving it. Well, i swapped in a bigger cam a few months back but truck hadnt been moved since i was waiting on a new converter. While i was out puttin a few miles on it the other day i noticed that oil pressure kinda dropped to maybe 30 psi cruisin when it was holding 40. Didnt really think nothin bad bc it still was holding pretty good and would jump to 50+ with rpm. Well, it stayed like this for a few days till i swapped out the sensor thinkin it was faulty. Ok, changed that thin Lifter went to tappin while it was idling along out of my driveway, but soon quite. I figured this was due to oil pressure. Well today when i crank it up it was down in the 20-30psi at idle and would just barely jump to over 40+ at rpm. Im not sure if it is a o ring or oil pump. I didnt disturb the oil pump during cam change I think. But maybe the lifter could be the problem? What do yall think?

thanks guys.

A lifter shouldnt cause that much of a change in oil pressure if any.. i guess its possible but you mainly hear of main and rod bearings causing that much of a change in oil pressure.. if you dont have any other engine noises other than the lifter then i would be looking at the pump/o ring or sensors/wiring.. i know you said you replaced the oil pressure sensor but it could have been a faulty part also or the guage in the dash.. Also the best way to check oil pressure is with a mechanical guage, the one in the dash is know for not being too accurate.

after you do that and it doesnt fix the problem, and you wanna make sure its not bearing, drain the oil cut the oil filter open and check for any metal or powdered metal..

i have seen one pump fail after cam swap it does happen but i wouldnt think often

try the cluster and see how it works out. If not then deff check the filter for metal like stated above.. Keep us posted!

well swapped out the new cluster with the same results as before with oil pressure. It was holding at around 38psi but would barley jump above 40 with rpm. Fixin to pull off oil filter and report back.

ok guys i cut the oil filter open and everything checked out ok. No metal anywhere. Good clean oil. I went ahead and swapped out a new filter and oil pressure was holding at 40psi on start up and jumps to 50+ with rpm. Yall think oil filter helped?

Its possible, after your truck setup for several months did you change the oil before running it much or are you still running the same oil up to swapping the oil filter? What type of oil filter are ou running?

If it was me i would go ahead and start saving for a new oil pump and possibly new lifters if they are going out, i remember you said they were making noise.. also remember that incorrect lenght pushrods will cause valvetrain noise/damage.

the oil is the same oil from when it sat up. Oil filter was one i got for free from advance a while back. Its a purolator classic white one. Pushrods are trick flow hardined 7.4s. While we are at it. I been noticing a slite vibration in this thing. It kinda goes to roaring and getting louder with speed thin quits and may come back depending on speed. I do have a 4l80e with 4.56s. Maybe the stock driveshaft aint made for this type of rpm? Runs anywhere between 2300-2500 at about 60-65mph.

I would deff change the oil and put a good quality oil filter on it and see how it does..

For the vibration it could very well be the driveshaft.. did it vibrate before the 4l80e and 4:56's?
