Default looking for opinions on motor swap

Hey everyone. I daily drive an 03 Silverado RCSB with a 4.8, I also own a few LS motor variants as spares for a mustang i race. Ive currently got a head/cam aluminum LS1 as well as a 6.0 shortblock sitting on my garage floor that I think would be cool to swap into the truck. I just cant decide which.

I guess the extra displacement would be nice on the 6.0, but id have to either buy another set of heads for it, like l92s, or else take the ported 853s off my ls1. On the other hand, the LS1 has all good hardware on it, runs good although Id prob put in a more streetable cam, and id shave 100lbs from the aluminum vs. iron

what would you guys do?

I think alot of the set-up is gonna be matching of the cam/stall. If you change anything having these two matched IMO will help you not have to re-visit it later.

I say 6.0L find some 243 heads and get your compression into the 11's get a 3000 stall and you'll need some marine injectors.

L92's and you'll have to track down an intake, TB, xlink(to control TB)...I think there is a TBSS intake on MOtown that would get you a larger TB.

IMO, I like the idea of savin 100# of the nose of what are already nose heavy vehicles. Plus, u said u already have the good stuff on it. Cam is relatively low cost & good to go. I wish all the LS's 5.3 or 6L were aluminum for wtg. savings & bulletproof.

only question Ive got came up last night when I was swapping an LQ4 into a buddies corvette. There are differences in the block where the A/C stuff bolts up. The LS1s are missing the rearmost bolt hole. The Vette motor mount interferes with the lower rearmost bolt hole for A/C. I wouldnt feel like having to lose the A/C because the compressor wont mount on the side of the Alum. block

Vettes are their own animal. Trucks another. F-bodies/ GTO another.
Gotta be in the know for how/ where A/C bolts up & other accessories.
Some mount hi/ others low. Left side/ right side.
Some motor swaps people notch frame for A/C.

Also, pullies are diff. many times between these platforms. Oil pans is another good one. May be a few other, like coolant crossover & manifold design.

Lots of ways to go.

Put a blower on the 4.8. Small for gas mileage when out of boost, powerful for accident avoidance when in boost.

Well Id be using all the accessories off of the 4.8. From the oil pan to the intake, and bolting them onto the LS1 block. I just want to make sure that the A/C will bolt up. Im pretty sure Ive got a bracket laying around as well as some truck motor mounts I can try

Blower would be awesome, but unfortuantely, I wanna do this on a budget, its only a daily driver and I really dont have $3k laying around to spend on a blower...I do however have plenty of extra motors and spare parts I can build into something just as fun

cjmatt , not looking to jack anybodys post but is it realy as easy as swapping out the motors with these new trucks? I've got a 5.3 and was considering swapping out with a 6.0 but was wondering what all would be needed as far and computer and such

what about upgrading to a HO 5.3 short block?

I personaly like the idea of the blower but like you said if the funds arn't their go with what you got

yeah its pretty easy to swap, only changes are to the tune, and probably gonna need a different set of injectors
