Talking looking for a cam.

I am looking for a cam for an '01 GMC I drive the truck everday and I am new to the GM world seeing as I am a Ford guy at heart, but I love to go fast. I am wanting something that will give the truck a good lopey idle so I can utilize the exhaust on the truck. I am planning on putting a new motor in the truck when it is paid off or just building the 4.8 block up to a 5.7 preferably. Just wanting to get some answers and get the process rolling, later.

I don't believe you can get to the bore required for a 5.7 out of the 4.8 block, only the 5.3.

You looking for drag racing, or light to light. What other mods do you have, and what else are you planning on doing?

the truck is actually my DD I am just looking for a good strong cam that will work with my longtubes, true duals and cold air kit. Efans and programmer on the way and maybe upgrade the gears to 4.11 with a posi unit. Don't want a all out drag truck already have that just want a good light to light runner, don't really care about fuel mileage have another car in the works for that, let me know something guys, later.

do not waste your money on a programmer, and you will need to get a tune to go with the cam, along with valve springs and pushrods

id say a 212/218 on a 114 or 112 would be good for what you want

I was planning to do a similar setup myself on my 4.8L but prefer to go a little bigger..to match my Tci stall converter

Is a 224/224 581" 581" 112 lsa to much for daily driving? I drive about 10minutes a day to get to work and 10mins to get home..Hardly hit any traffic!

Not at all. I run that cam in a bigass extended cab and it's fine. I sat in traffic for an hour today with no problems. I have the idle set pretty low at 700 too and it never dies.
