Default L92 Rod and Piston Question.

alright well iv been contemplating the idea of gettin an lq4 short block to build up slowly.

I figure that I want to replace all bearing, rings, and gaskets; looking to drop a fresh motor in on a budget.

Well i got to thinking, instead of reusing the lq4 pistons or even ls2/lq9 pistons; will a set of L92 rods and pistons work???

Of course i know i will have to bore it out. and the motor will be N/A only.

what r the differences between L92 and LQ4 cranks, besides the reluctor wheel, if any???

I do not want to run a L92 motor
1. i can't afford it
2. I do not trust converter boxes.

The crank is basically the same, outside of balancing and reluctor wheel. I know you said that you’re just planning on a NA motor, but even so, punching out a 6.0L 0.065” will require sonic testing the block to make sure your block in particular can even handle it. If your block can safely go that much, you will want to have the rotating assembly rebalanced unless you actually use the whole rotating assembly from the donor motor.

You could just pick up a L92 and have the 58 tooth reluctor swapped out for a 24 tooth unit and then all you would need is the harnesses to relocate the knock and camshaft position sensors. You wouldn’t need the converter box going this route. It still doesn’t get you around the whole not being able to afford it thing though.

haha ya im going to have the rotating assembly balanced weather its the LQ4 or i swap in the different rods and pistons.

sonic testing is a good idea, i'll have to see if its available around here.
