At least that's the motor I'm dreaming up for my '06 GTO.
sounds good to me! this is a combo i want to do on my front engine dragster. 301's were a popular small cubic inch motor that packed a punch. 327 with a 283 crank. i see some of the dirt track dudes run 2.9" stroke cranks. hello 10k rpm. anyway.. yes swap the (6.2) l92 in the truck they put down very impressive numbers

That's a great idea, but power wise pointless. The thing that hold the GenIII/IV motors back from high rpm isn't the stroke. They have turned them over 9k with the longer stroke. The valvetrain is the issue, not the stroke.

There is a reason why road course cars and similar venues run super light or really short stroke motors. Cars that are in and out of the throttle benefit greatly from them as they will decelerate quickly as well as rev quick. Drag cars on the other hand benefit from a heavier rotating assembly to a degree for launching hard and both drag cars and street cars benefit from a heavier assembly by not having as much of an RPM drop between gears. Of course, the heavier the car the engine is installed in, the more important it is to keep some weight in the assembly.

Of course being a light weight front engine dragster, it may be interesting to see the outcome of such a package. One thing to keep in mind though, is back in the day when the small cube motors like the 302 was around, they were using heads that were marginal for the larger motors, so the smaller cube motors were really able to make better use of them. Hell, the stock heads we have now are somewhat on par with the Winston Cup heads from the eighties and in some cases better.

they will not fit me and my friend tried mine on his ls1 with a 500 lift cam and the valves would rub aginst the side of the cylinder walls and that was bored .010 over to...
