I recently had to swap out a knock sensor but when I was taking them off they just kept spinning on the top without them coming off . I finally got them off but when I put the new one in it starting spinning after tighnening them and the check engine light code came on for that knock sensor . Has anyone ever encountered this or know a way to prevent it?

 

Sounds like you need to run a tap down into the hole and clean the threads of the loctite/corrosion that is in there... If the top of the sensor starts spinning in the body it needs to be replaced, if youre lucky it will twist the internals and still read butbthe top being loose with give you false knock, if not so lucky it breaks intermally and gives you a circuit code

 

They have a specific torque spec and if you do not torque to that spec it can crush them and damage them.

I believe the torque spec is 15ft lbs. on the knock sensor

 

Is it that much? I thought those were like 106in/lbs??!!
