Hey all, getting ready to pull the trigger here on a trick turbo kit real soon and i have a few question. I know i will need to get the dod tuned out, but is it necessary to actually remove all the dod components from the engine? How reliable are they under boost? I would also like to do a cam and valve springs if money permits. Also what about the VVT? Can i leave that in too? I don't plan on running a real lopey cam. And whats your take on precision entry level turbos? I was leaning towards a turbonetics after all the bad things i have been reading about precision.
THANKS

Check out my build thread and install thread.
I have a completely stock engine w 12 psi which makes just under 500 wheel. My 09 5.3 came w dod and its all still in there just tuned out.

I've been contemplating the same thing, except I'm mostly dreaming, won't be able to pull trigger anytime soon on the turbo kit, if I end up that route. But I read on here a ton, way to much time digging thru threads to get myself a long term goal I can dream about and slowly build toward.
From what I've read, keep the vvt and delete the dod if you can afford it. Also, it seems to make sense to cam while you have it apart. DOD delete, gaskets and head studs. Then VVT cam, springs and rods. Injectors, Turbo kit, spark plugs, exhaust, converter, and run a catch can (properly set up) if you don't already have one. The drive line should be addressed if you are pre-2010. No flex fuel, then fuel pump will need to be looked at eventually. E85 or meth if going above ~500-600 rwhp. Good tuner!!
The DOD is basically a ticking clock but the VVT is def worth keeping.
But, as CHODA did, you can just tune it out and go, if you want.

Sweet thanks for the links. I have the money to do the dod delete and cam/spring swap, but then i wouldn't have money for a built trans. I got the 6l80e and i like having a 6 speed, but built 6 speeds are not cheap though. I did end up buying the stage two kit though along with a 75/75 turbonetics.
