Thanks smokeshow. So since I don’t have cats, would that be an issue? So you’re saying that the primary temps should be close to exhaust temps as in right at the tail pipe? That’s one place I haven’t checked. Idk what steady state means exactly. My handle is novicebuilder but can actually be translated into noob builder

Those low temps would be an issue if you DID have cats. My point is you should ignore those temperatures and look elsewhere for the issue.

I’ve never paid much attention to the temperature of the primaries/manifolds before but I figured I’d check with a temp gun to make sure. I had spoke with a guy from seriousHP down in Houston and he said he’d be concerned with any temp over 300. You could see signs of heat on the intake valves and the machine shop guy said he’s seen intake valves that “tulip” from getting too hot and it actually makes the valve longer. How hot have you seen primaries get smokeshow? I don’t have cats, would that affect temps upstream? Should I weld some in? I wiggled the injector wire and taped it in place like factory and put the blue clip in place and no change. I figure it’s like you say smokeshow, timing. I’ve heard that with an efficient motor you need less timing?

I can tell you this: the production engines I work on are permitted to operate indefinitely with exhaust temperatures at ~1700°F. When I say timing, I mean injection timing.

I think you think I’m talking about a Diesel engine!

What year is the truck?

Are you using Stock injectors?

Did you measure for push rods or just slap those in there?
