I read somewhere that stock pushrod length for a lq9 is 7.835 ( LQ9 Engine Specs: Performance, Bore & Stroke, Cylinder Heads, Cam Specs & More - OnAllCylinders ). I threw some ls1 pushrods in and torqued to 22ft/lbs. it’s kinda noisy, perhaps I should have the 7.385”. The short block I started with was a lq4 but it had floating wrist pins. Does that mean it’s a 04+ Year model?

The article says 7.385 which is correct factory length.

If you do in fact have a 7.835 They are way to long and likely would not close the valve.

I had a typo. The factory length calls for a 7.385 in the lq9. I’m thinking that’s what I need

Default UPDATE: great news

i had ordered some spark plug wires, along with a WAlbro fuel pump cuz, what the heck, why not. The hottest temp I had was 615+ cyl#1. Put the new plug wires on and to my amazmenent the temps dropped! I almost fell out. Cyl #1 climbed up to 250 and then started going back down. It had original plug wires with 188k miles on them. I’ll put the WAlbro in this weekend. I hope this helps someone. I’m a happy camper for sure !! Now I need to figure out which two wires to pull out of the pigtail to accommodate the wires from the new pump

On my junk exhaust temp about 3 feet after the head idles at about 800F and cruising is in the 1100F range. With the turbo pre-turbine it was in the 1400F range cruising and 1800F+ under load depending on how long.

Good to know for if I go turbo! I’ve read alot and watched a lot about turbos but not comfortable tackling a project like that, for now. I’ve seen twin turbo kits on eBay, $2200 for the silverado which isn’t bad! I like the idea of a ProCharger myself! Just happy to have figured out my issue

So I bought another motor! It’s a 6.0 with 317 heads, came out of a van. What are the pros and cons of milling the heads? Is it worth it? Any advice is appreciated
