Which heads for this truck?
#1
After debating selling my truck, it appears I may just hang onto it for awhile. I've had to pull the engine due to a shoddy job on the last rebuild, and while having it apart thought I'd do a few things to it.
This truck is a 01 gmc C3 awd with an LQ4 engine. It's had forged pistons, some mild port work on the stock heads, 1.85 rockers, and all other internals stock, using a single turbo setup, with a best of 12.3 @ 109.
I'm still not wanting to go full race, and hence I've gone back to a tighter convertor (2000) for drivability, and tranny longevity. We're going to bump up from the current 8.0 cr to a 9.0 cr, and use better rings and bearings, and I'm debating using some better heads to get into the 11's.
The first question I'm sure is budget, which with a few camaros eating my wallet is somewhat tight for this truck, but at the same time while I've got it apart and in no particular hurry I'm of a mind to spend some $ to imrove what we'e got.
Can we make a significant improvement for $1500 on some dart 205cc heads (not looking to go too big on the street), or is it worth the extra $ for some afr heads. Others? Gain vs $ spent? The shop doing the work has some patriot heads, but tells me they have found them to be worth about 5 hp less than stock.
Any thoughts-experience with this setup? Thx!

Aren't there some issues with the bore centers being different creating some valve clearance issues? They have amazing potential but it would seem that you just won't get the max out of them because of alignment? Also aren't the intakes different too if you switch to those heads?
I'm no expert, but from the few things I've read you can get them to work well but there is a bit of "massaging" involved. So it's not a cut and paste process.

have to have a new intake but for 1500 you get the heads and an intake that outflows the ls6, if I remember right you get the rails too.
