Default Head milling for Cleanup only

Have you had your heads milled slightly for cleanup?

What did you do about valvetrain clearances? Did you have to special order shorter push rods, or did you install shims under the rocker arm bolts?

After milling the heads you'll need a pushrod length checker (less than $20), then you can order the correct length pushrods, Comp makes multiple sizes that work on the GENIII engines.

Milling the heads just enough to clean them up should not affect your valve train geometry enough to need new pushrods. Unless it's taking a ton to clean them up. I milled a set of 243's with 100000 miles on them about 2 months ago and it only took .008 to get them back flat. Threw the motor back together with the stock pushrods and car runs perfect.

Agreed.. That should only take a few thou off to clean them up unless they are beat. The lifter should be able to take that little bit up.

Well I suppose at a few thou there shouldn't be any major issues, but personally, I'd still check lifter preload, for the cheap price of a pr length checker and the little bit of time that it takes to check, why not? Just for reference, stock length pr is 7.38, and aftermarket pr's are offered in increments of .025 (ex: 7.4, 7.375, 7.425, etc.)

I would assume if someone's running solid lifters than it would be more of a concern than someone running hydraulic lifters right?

Absolutely, the plunger in the hydraulic lifter will allow for some play with the valvetrain geometry...I can't remember the exact number, but there is a certain amount of allowable clearance that the hydraulic lifter will account for.
