Default head help

Hey guys, I'm new here but I have visited many times & enjoyed the advice Anyhow, a mild street daily driver motor could be in the future works (like heads & cam) and I was wondering what stock heads might be an improvement. The motor is a stock 5.3 (not picked out a cam yet)....could I benefit from LS1 or LS6 heads? What about stock 6.0 heads?

Thanks

Welcome! It all depends on what your goals are with the engine for HP/TQ. Once you decide how crazy you want to get with it, the parts are easier to pick from that point on. Good luck!

ls1 heads flow just as good as you stock 5.3l heads but will just bump the compression.

ls6 and stock 6.0l heads(317's) flow the same but the ls6 will raise your compression ratio and the 317's will lower your compression ALOT.

Out of those 3 heads and money allowing a set of 243's would be nice. Then need alot more info to help with the cam part.

yeah it definately sounds like the ls6 heads are the way to go, but I am a little coufused about the ls1's. I thought f-body guys were after the 5.3 heads to raise compression, so wouldn't ls1 heads lower compression on a 5.3?

That was before the LS6 heads became available.A lot of builders were porting 5.3 heads and installing 2.0" intake valves, when the better heads bacame available most builers quit using the 5.3 heads.

If you are planning to keep the 5.3 the LS1 head's 2.0"intake valves will be partially shrouded by the smaller bore, the ports don't flow any better than the 5.3 heads and the compression would be reduced by it's larger chambers.
