I have a chance to get a 6.0 block, crank, and lq9 pistons and rods for $650 shipped. The owner says that all the block needs is a hone and new rings for the pistons. I am thinking of buying it, getting it honed and assembled, then sticking my 224 cam and buying a good set of 317 heads and reusing all of my 5.3 stuff. Need opinions before I buy.

If you could assemble it yourself then it mayb e worth the money but if you are going to go to the expense of getting a shop to put it together then throw in some good rods and pistons in there. You are looking at ~50 for a hone job, and atleast 300 for assembly, plus bearings and rings. I would see if he would sell just the block and crank and buy good dstuff to go in. Dont let it sway you just because it has flatop pistons, detonation will kill those LQ9 pistons just as easily(if not quicker due to compression and increased heat aka detonation causers) as LQ4 or whatever hyperteutic pistons. Thats just me though, besides with forged goodies you could spray a 250 shot

Thats a pretty good deal I got my "fried" 6.0 longblock for 600 shipped but that was a damn good deal. IMO build it up a bit at a time and take it easy on the 5.3 your 5.3 seems to be running strong anyway I ran a 9 flat without longtubes or cam so it seems it isnt a slouch so I would do a little at a time.

I called around to the local salvage yards yesterday and found an 05 lq4 complete from pan to intake for only 500 bucks. Then today on my lunch break I went to see it and found out it was locked due to a bent rod from when the truck rolled over. I bought it and that is going to be the base for my forged 370. I almost bought a block and crank only for the same price just a few days ago. Glad that I waited.
