Default A good 5.3 cam?

I have a 2001 silverado 5.3 and I'm thinking about doing a cam next... i want to add plenty of power, not kill my mpg, and have a good lope to it. I ran a 15.83, i would like to get into at least mid 14s... would a cam and tune do that? and what would you recommend?

hmm, i would say a 212/218. i think it would afford you a good balance of all around power. do you plan on doing a converter or gears? i take it you have 3.73 gears now. do you go offroad with your truck? you will still probably end up wanting to do a converter swap after the cam is in. i can't say this cam would get you good mileage or anything but it will help pick you up in power. if you want lope then look at a 112lsa but a 114 would probably do just as well.

i'm starting to wonder if my 224 112 is going to be overkill on my stock 5.3

Without a converter you'll likely have issues.

what would be an overall good cam for low and top end? i dont expect insane power from a swap if it gets me both, but anything helps. I have 35's and im going to 4.56's. I have a radix and im getting Pacesetter LT's. I tow and offroad, but dont want just bottom end..

if you have FI like a radix most poeple use the GT2-3 cam. for a regular vehicle its hard to find great low and top end. most have to sacrifice low end for a converter and high end but with the SC you have a narrowed selection of cams. you'll benefit from a wide split between intake and exhaust

your 4.56 should help you out low end too though...
