Smile GM Hot Cam - Install

I'm leavin for TooTall(Matt)'s house in the morning to do the cam swap in my truck. I'll try and get some pictures, but most importantly some video/audio. I'm going to dyno the truck probably next week if Mike has an opening. I'll post more later tomorrow once everything is done and installed, but for now here's what I've got:

GM Hot Cam
Blue LS6 springs
Comp magnum 7.4 pushrods
Fel-Pro gasket kit
Plus all the other supporting goods (ie. oil, filter, coolant, crank bolt, etc.)

For the people who are always asking "hey how much does a cam swap cost", my current cost is $812.57 including everything. I would have attempted the cam install myself, but due to lack of experience/knowledge with GenIII's I'm paying Matt to do the install while I help/learn. It should be a fun learning experience and hopefully all goes well *knock on wood* haha.

Pics/Vids tomorrow evening

Sounds good. Post up some pics of the install and of course some audio. Where did you get the gasket kit? PM if necessary

Well, originally I ordered a GMPP "cam install kit" from GMPartsDirect but it's been over 2 weeks and finally they said it'll be here next week haha. I went to oreilly's and got the fel-pro kit in the 40 dollar range. The GMPP kit included the crank bolt and was the same price, but the fel-pro didn't include the bolt. I went to the dealership and bought the bolt for a nice 10 bux and some change.

The install went pretty smooth and that Crane Cams valvespring tool is bitchin. Matt has some video so I'll see if he can either send it to me or just post it here. BTW, for those of you who don't know Matt he's a great guy and know's his stuff. Now for some serious tuning. That cam does lope pretty well too

that valve spring tool ROCKS ! . . . I should have gotten that sucker way back

Thanks again for having all of the parts and supplies when you came over. That made things go smooth and easy. I'll get the vid, and pics of the tool up later on. Thanks again, and thanks for the kind words.

Np Matt!

Update: I'm in the process of nailing down my VE tune and then I'll work on MAF. The first time we all rode in the truck yesterday it felt like a dog but I presume the reasoning was the computer was learning all new fueling/airflow. The motor pulls very strong all over now. Overall I've been very impressed and the tune should make it a lot better. As for lope, it sounds pretty damn good at 700 rpm and I really haven't had any more problems with cam surge. Cold starts aren't a problem, and decel to a stop isn't dipping at all. We need to hook up and do some tuning Matt, lemme know when you wanna start tuning your truck. I'm probably going to order a wideband for my birthday present to myself lol. Everything's good and I'll have the pictures uploaded later this evening.

Jake
