Forged Pistons for the 5.3

Unhappy Forged Pistons for the 5.3

Well long story short we shattered the ring land between the 1st and 2nd and 2nd and oil rings of pistons 5 and 7 on my girlfriend's dad's truck. Its a 2000 2wd 5.3L with a procharger, headers, and a westers PCM. Needless to say pistons 5 and 7 are done! The block is oddly enough perfect, infact with 80K on it there is even some crosshatch left even in 5 and 7--no scarring at all! So in goes a complete forged piston set, hopefully. Does anyone make a forged piston for the 5.3?

Thats the problem the block is still in the truck and he would like keep it that way. Just for time purposes he didn't want ot have to pull the motor(this is a daily driver and we need to get it done soon). We were hoping to find 5.3 stock bore forged pistons in the stock compression ratio range.

IF its like that then you need to get another block to rework. Even if you get stock bore pistons the block will still have to be honed so the rings will seat. Then put the bottom end back together and put it back in that will be more than a weekend job I promise.

I realized that, the plan is to be extremely careful and hone it in the car, it has been done before. The problem is that there is no sense in boring it if we could find forged pistons in the stock size--The block is in perfect condition as-is. If no forged pistons are found, stock ones will be going back in a freshly honed block (that never got removed from the truck). It came apart in about a day no sense in spending another day pulling the block if it is not needed. And another whole motor is a little outta the price range currently.

Have fun honing it while in the car and reinstalling all that stuff. You got more ***** than me thats for sure. You can get a 5.3 block for like 150 bucks they are cheap. Why not buy one and build it then jsut swap em in. Would be more time effective and easier IMO. Most likely you will have to with a custom piston due to the fact that there isnt that big of a demand for 5.3 stock bore pistons everyone bores and goes bigger. Either way I would go with JE pistons they are the best IMO.
