Going with an LS6 or LS2 casting would get your compression up in the range that you're looking for. You could also search around for people selling the re-worked 5.3L heads (valve size correction and ported) and really build some torque with it. If you go with the L92 heads you won't gain any compression. You will however gain alot of airflow and if you pick the rest of the parts right it will be very strong in the mid to upper rpm range.
My brother wants to help build the motor up so we are planning on tearing down the motor completely this weekend. We're thinking of going with a 402 setup.
