This might be the wrong place but I'll ask any way.
I've been trying to get this iron block ready for paint but it seems to rust as fast as I can sand. So I said screw it and got some rustoleum rust converter stuff. Applied it wil a foam brush and it looks good now. How ever it says if your going to paint with oil based paint to do so in 4 hours. But if your using lacquer or aerosol paints to wait three days. Any body know why?
On a brighter note I got my bearing clearances all done up today so I can build it once it's finally painted.

I used a wire wheel on a drill/break clean and then primed and painted mine with engine paint from a rattle can same night. Im sure not best way but think it turned out OK. Sounds as if it leaves some stuff on the block that might eat the paint. I'm sure you can break clean it off.

I just took a wire brush attachment on a cordless drill, dipped the brush in paint thinner and went to town on the block. Painted it with dupicolor engine enamel primer, then gloss black. Turned out pretty good but hasn't been off the stand yet so no wear and tear on it yet.
