So I have developed a pretty bad engine tick. I was hoping to get some input from you guys to help me narrow it down. My motor started getting noisey so I didn't drive it much. I decided that maybe it was a bad lifter so I pulled my heads and replaced the lifters. While I was reassembling the motor I came accross a pushrod that had some pretty good wear on the ball. I replaced that one pushrod and finished up and still the same noise. I then replaced my rockers and yet still had the same noise. I tried narrowing it down to a cylinder so I let it idle while I unplugged each coil to see if the noise stopped/changed. However the noise did not stop nor did it get any quieter. Can you guys help me narrow it down some more? I'll list my truck and mods as well.

2006 RCSB Silverado.
5.3, LT's, UD Pulley, CAI, HP Tuners, LvL 3 with TB converter.

your trucks not under warranty anymore?

 

It is still under warranty. I work at a local chevy dealer so I could probably con them into fixing it. I'm just the kind of person that would have liked to do it myself. Plus They know all my mods (which isn't much) but im sure they would hassle me about them.

Also when changing my oil after the lifter swap there was a good amount of metal on the magnet...

 

Where is the noise coming from in the motor? Have you used a metal rod to sound it out?

 

No I do not. I used a stethoscope on each tube of the head right at the head and all cylinders sounded the same . I could try snooping around with it some more. Also, I have a infared thermometer.... Maybe I could check each cylinder temp.

 

I was just wondering if your engine noise was coming from the same place as mine. Mine seems to be localized around the front of the driver's side valve cover.

No it does not seem to get any louder the higher the rpm.
On cold starts its not there until the truck idles back down and its not noisey while driving eithe (at least not that I can hear anyway).

 

Its doubtful that any of your mods caused what you are hearing, minus the possibility of a flex plate bolt. But the noise staying the same as the RPMs change kinda rules that out. give it to the dealer and make them fix it.

Possibly a lifter might have gotten stuck and wore the cam lobe down a little, now there is slack in the lifter/pushrod/rocker.
