don't think ou need the gears you cn order them but you don't need them to run the ls2 chain. but with whats going on i would order a new gears for top and bottom if cheap. just to make sure there is nothing wrong with them.

I really do think that in order to break that chain, you are gonna have to have those sprockets out of alignment. Got any pics of the chain itself? That may give a little insight to how the damn thing is breaking.

Even if it was a quad roller ,you need to address the cause of the failures,it shouldnt fail even with the cheapest chain set on the market.

Man I wish I knew why this happened......I saw that the chain had a couple of half links missing like if it was starting to break from different parts. I checked both the cam and bottom gear to see if it had side markings like if the chain was operating in a crooked kind of way but it seems normal. And the bottom gear was all the way in. If I could post a pic of the chain but I don't have a scanner....damn. This is just weird.

It sounds to me like the cam is walking allowing the chain to land on a timing gear tooth. Where are the marks on the chain? Engine side would say it's walking forward. I don't know LS engines but on mine I'd say the cam button is missing, all the shims fell out, or the cover is badly worn. Radiator-side chain marks say its walking backward. The brass cam plug in the back of the block may have been installed wrong. Maybe this will make sense to one of the LS guys.
